Bethany Christian School integrates biblical principles and Christian philosophy into every aspect of its educational program. We are committed to developing the whole child—spiritually, academically, physically, and socially.
Our curriculum is regularly evaluated, and consistent test results reflect strong academic standards and effective instruction. This success is supported by godly, qualified teachers who thoughtfully develop curriculum and use quality instructional materials.
In elementary grades, students receive comprehensive Biblical instruction with an emphasis on understanding and personally applying biblical truth. Kindergarten through Grade 3 use curriculum from Answers in Genesis with a focus on the Biblical account of Creation.
In Grade 4, students explore the major themes of the Old Testament. In Grade 5, students begin studying theology, preparing them to engage more deeply with Biblical Worldviews in Grade 6.
In secondary, Bible classes are taught by pastors, four of whom have advanced degrees in theology. The Bible curriculum has been thoughtfully developed by our pastoral faculty:
7th Grade: The Gospels
8th Grade: Pauline Epistles
9th Grade: Non-Pauline Epistles
10th Grade: Old Testament
11th Grade: Doctrine/Theology
12th Grade: Doctrine/Ethics
In the elementary grades, students build a strong foundation in language through the comprehensive grammar program published by Bob Jones Press. Writing instruction is supplemented with additional resources to help students apply grammatical principles effectively in composition. Recent enhancements to the spelling program emphasize understanding and applying spelling rules, equipping students to spell accurately without relying solely on rote memorization.
In secondary school, students engage with a variety of carefully selected materials to provide a well-rounded study of literature, grammar, and vocabulary.
Juniors and seniors also have the opportunity to participate in dual enrollment courses through Maranatha Baptist University, allowing them to earn college credit while completing their high school education.
All grades at BCS use material published by Bob Jones Press to study history, government, geography, and economics from a biblical worldview. Students in 12th grade complete their study of history with a year of Government and Economics.
Elementary students begin Spanish instruction in first grade. In grades 9–12, students may continue their studies through Spanish I, II, and III. Greek I and II are also offered.
Through the study of modern and biblical languages, students expand their ability to communicate across cultures and gain tools for a deeper understanding of Scripture in its original language.
Students at Bethany use materials published by BJU Press, providing a traditional approach to mathematics with an added emphasis on fact fluency and mastery of foundational skills.
As students enter secondary school, they may pursue an advanced mathematics track based on their individual ability and future academic goals.
Grade 7: Fundamentals of Math or Pre-Algebra
Grade 8: Pre-Algebra or Algebra I
The following required classes include: Algebra II & Geometry
Math electives include: Consumer Math, Accounting, Pre-Calculus, & AP Calculus
Begindergarten and Kindergarten students participate in physical education once each week. Students in Grades 1 through 6 meet twice weekly with a qualified P.E. teacher, developing fundamental sports skills while learning teamwork and good sportsmanship.
Students in Grades 7 and 8 meet daily, alternating between Physical Education and Health classes. This structure allows students to build physical fitness while also gaining an understanding of personal health and wellness.
A biblical perspective on science is presented to each grade, encouraging the application of Biblical knowledge to scientific information. Some secondary students utilize curriculum from secular sources for advanced classes. Classes include: Life Science, Earth Science, Physical Science, Biology, Chemistry, AP Physics, & Anatomy.
Elementary students are able to participate in Music, Art, P.E., Spanish, & Typing/Computers (4-6).
While BCS is not a special-needs school and does not offer specialized special education programs or self-contained classrooms, the Learning Center—along with support services available through Troy School employees—helps provide appropriate academic assistance so struggling students can succeed.
The Learning Center is designed to provide 30 minutes a day of supplemental academic support for students who need additional assistance in regular, grade-level classes. Services may include reading support, reinforcement of primary content areas for students with a service plan, and other academic help as schedules allow.
Learning Center services are offered for an additional fee and are not included in the BCS One Rate.
